A DUSK Walk will take place on the evening of Friday, October 11 to raise funds for young people affected by homelessness in Greater Manchester.

The walkers are to follow a five-mile route around the centre of Manchester to highlight the plight of young people with nowhere to go each evening – and support homelessness charity Depaul UK.

Beth Lowe, community fundraiser at Depaul UK, said: “It’s impossible to put ourselves in the shoes of young people who don’t know where they’ll sleep tonight. What Depaul UK does do though is walk alongside young people in a moment of crisis and support them to step out of homelessness.

“Anyone taking part in Dusk Walk can be sure that the money they raise will make a real difference to the lives of young people. I would encourage everyone to take part in what is sure to be a fun event that will hopefully give them a new perspective as dusk falls on our wonderful city.”

In Greater Manchester, Depaul UK provides emergency accommodation and works to prevent homelessness by delivering housing advice, supported accommodation, counselling, family support and education work in schools.

Through its same-night, emergency accommodation service Nightstop, in the past 12 months Depaul UK has provided more than 555 nights of accommodation for young people in Greater Manchester who may otherwise have had to sleep on the streets.

Last year, Depaul’s services supported more than 3,200 people who were homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Of the people helped, 75 percent of those with health and wellbeing issues experienced positive change, 79 perc ent who needed help to look after themselves gained practical skills to live independently, and 83 percent saw positive change in their relationships.

Dusk Walk participants will be set a fundraising target of £100.
