THE North-East’s largest bus company has pledged to support families, students, and young adults by extending the age range for young persons’ travel discounts.

Go North East has connected towns, villages, and cities of the North-East for more than 100 years. More than 175,000 people travel every day on the operator’s 700 buses, between Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland, and the surrounding areas.

Under the expanded scheme, passengers aged from 5 up to 25 can now purchase a day ticket for just £4.50, or a weekly ticket for £17 – a saving of more than 40 per cent when compared to equivalent adult tickets.

The discount represents Go North East’s continued commitment to providing affordable public travel, and to ensuring families, teenagers, and young adults can travel throughout the region with ease.

While financial pressures have forced the award-winning company to raise its popular ‘£1 under 19’ fare by 20p, bosses are confident the new ticket offering means young people are still getting a better deal than ever before.

Weekly and monthly ticket prices will remain unchanged at their current prices, and all tickets – excluding monthly tickets – can be bought directly on a Go North East bus.

Day, weekly, and monthly tickets can also be purchased via the Go North East app, available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Passengers aged 16 or over will be required to show ID to carry on buying any of these tickets at the exclusive discount prices.

Go North East is happy to accept UK ID cards with the PASS hologram, including the CitizenCard and Validate UK, and will also accept the Young Persons 16-25 Railcard or other transport ID cards – such as Stagecoach VIP, Network One Young Persons ID card, and Arriva Teen – as well as passports and photographic driving licences.
