WORLD'S leading cyclists geared up to tackle the famous "King of the Mountains" ascent of Rawson's Rake as the Tour of Britain came through Bury.

Crowds lined the route to welcome the cyclists as they reached the final stage of the peloton, which this year finished in Deansgate.

Bunting was out and messages chalked on the road.

The route took in some of Bury's most picturesque spots in Ramsbottom, Holcombe Village and Hawkshaw Village.

Alongside all the racing action there wasbe plenty of cycling-themed fun.

At Ramsbottom Pool and Fitness centre held free family cycling fun day, including challenges and activities for youngsters and adults, as well a Bury Tandem Cycling Club expo, information stalls and a Roch Valley Radio DJ.

Down at The Shoulder of Mutton pub in Lumb Carr Road, there was a barbecue with live music and outdoor bar; plus a HSBC UK Breeze Women’s cycling expo and Bury Clarion Cycling Club.

And there was a Tour of Britain Treasure Trail with seven decorated bikes located between the East Lancashire Railway and Tilted Vase with prizes to be collected from Ramsbottom Leisure Centre.
