FUNERAL arrangements have been made for a former Blackburn Rovers star.

Mike Ferguson died on August 27 at the age of 76 and made more than 200 career appearances for Rovers between 1962 and 1968.

There will be a committal on September 18 at Burnley Cemetery on Rossendale Road at 11am then a memorial service is being held at Ewood Park at noon.

People attending the funeral are asked to attend in football shirts and colours.

His son Michael Paul Ferguson has described his dad as ‘a diamond’.

“He had the most fantastic sense of humour and a great character. He never gave up and was strong and a fighter and that's I will strive to be in life.”

Blackburn Rovers are holding a minute's applause ahead of Saturday’s match against Millwall.

Michael added: “My dad has left a legacy that a lot of people have not done so it is comforting all the messages I have received.”

'Fergie' started at Plymouth Argyle and arrived at Rovers from Accrington Stanley in 1962 and was a part of the great Rovers side of the 1960s.
