YELLOW weather warnings have been issued for Greater Manchester.

After a sunny weekend, the weather is expected to return to its previous gloom, with a yellow weather warning forecasted by the Met Office for Bury, Oldham and Sale.

The storms look set to miss Bolton.

The heavy thunderstorms were due to start at noon and continue until midnight.

There may be some flooding and disruption to travel in both towns, and the Met Office advises people to take extra caution when travelling.

A statement from the Met Office said: “Although some places will miss them, heavy showers and thunderstorms will break out in some areas this afternoon.

Where thunderstorms do occur, torrential rain and frequent lightning is expected as well as a chance of gusty winds and hail here and there.

“A few spots could see as much as 30 mm rain in an hour and 40 to 60 mm rain in two or three hours.”

Trains and bus services may see cancellations if the tracks are flooded.
