FIRST class results were posted by schools, with some celebrating a record-breaking year!

Notable results included Altrincham Grammar School for Girls which saw 36.1 per cent of all entries achieving the very top grade of 9 and 82.1 per cent of all results being graded at 7 or above.

Sale Grammar School achieved its best ever set of GCSE results with 64 per cent of all results being at either a 7, 8 or 9 grade.

Conservative Group Leader, Timperley Cllr Nathan Evans said: “I know how hard students and teachers have worked to get such fantastic results and it’s wonderful to see this paying off. They should feel proud of their achievements.

Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, said:“Receiving your GCSE results is a huge day for all involved so I want to congratulate pupils, parents and teachers on all their hard work.

“Overall the reforms we’ve put in place since 2010 and increasing rigour in our schools are giving pupils more opportunities.”

This year, more students than ever have passed their GCSEs on Greater Manchester’s only comprehensive full-time programme at Trafford College – and more have got higher grades.

A staggering 97 per cent made the grade with 61 per cent gaining grades 9 to 4, equivalent to A* to C under the old system, up from 55 per cent in 2018.

Trafford College’s Full Time GCSE Programme is one of a kind in Greater Manchester as it allows students to retake qualifications or start again from scratch, providing a pathway for new arrivals in the UK and students who have been home schooled.

Programme Leader Saqib Brook said: “We help students fulfil ambitions where they may not otherwise have been able to, such as students who want to retake their GCSEs to get into a particular course or to get into the education system for international students, for example.

“We are delighted with the results this year, which are the product of the amazing work ethic of the students and the hard work of their teachers."
