The first students to complete A-Levels at Trafford College’s newly refurbished Sixth Form Centre are celebrating their results.

Excited students gathered at Altrincham Campus to tear open their envelopes and celebrate with family, friends and staff.

The college has an overall pass rate of 98 per cent and an impressive 100 per cent pass rate in 12 subject areas.

Celebrating the start of his journey to university life this year is one of the college’s highest achievers, Mohammed Alsubehi, who received straight As in Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

Mohammed progressed to A-Levels from the college’s full time GCSE programme after arriving into the country from Libya.

He will pursue his dream of returning one day to work in the oil industry after completing a degree chemical engineering at the University of Manchester.

Mohammed, 20, from Cheetham Hill, who studied until midnight most evenings to get the grades, said: “I joined the college midway through the full time GCSE programme and it was very different from what I was used to, but the support I received from college has been great.

"There are so many people here from different backgrounds who have really helped me settle in and feel at home.”

Joining Mohammed in the celebrations was Ife Bamigboye who juggled a part-time job as a care assistant at Ashlands Manor Care Home in Sale with her studies.

The 19-year-old will read medicine at the University of Liverpool after receiving an A* in Chemistry, A in Biology and A in Maths.

The 19-year-old from Sale said: “I’m thrilled with the results.

“The teachers were always there for me, particularly in maths when I needed support. I did exactly what I did for my GCSEs, focus on the hard aspects by creating my own poster or fact sheet with a lot of silent study in the special quiet zone in the college library.”

Assistant Principal at Trafford College, Helen Wood, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating so many fantastic grades, particularly in light of the changes to the A-Level qualification, which has seen the introduction of a new linear model nationwide. Our students have adapted well with some amazing individual successes.”

This is the first year students at Trafford College are collecting A-Level Physics and A-Level Government and Politics, after their introduction two years ago.
