MYT Productions celebrate their 10th anniversary at Altrincham Garrick with a medley from most of their 16 shows on August 24.

The 48-strong cast will start with extracts from the first, Aladdin, and finish with their latest smash hit, Chicago.

Lorna Smyth, who was in the first production, will join them.

It’s a miracle how Joe Meighan, now 25, the producer and artistic director, ever got his company started.

When pupils at Wellacre Academy, he and his friend, Joe Hodgins learned of a Trafford Borough Council scheme called Pot of Gold.

The enthusiastic 15-year-olds applied for money to put on a show and then forgot it.

Joe M was gobsmacked when Joe H rang and said he had a cheque for £3,000.

“We thought we have got this money, we’d better go through with it!” said Joe.

They booked the school hall and successfully presented Disney’s Aladdin.

Two years later when Joe Hodgins left for a catering career, it became Meighan Youth Theatre Productions.

Since then they have appeared at St Anthony’s Catholic College, Lostock College, Z-Arts, Waterside Arts and Altrincham Garrick.

One of the most successful shows was Les Mis at the Garrick. “It was my last show before joining Mountview Academy to study for a professional acting degree,” said Joe.

The Garrick were so impressed with his shows that they asked Joe to direct for them. The Producers, the last production of the season, will be his seventh for them.

Former members, Hannah Lawson, Adam Boardman and Ryan Hall have appeared on the professional stage along with many others.

“Whatever their reason for joining, we pride ourselves in providing a professional creative team – director, musical director and choreographer.”

Joe has been Artistic Director at Pendleton School of Theatre for 18 months.
