A FREEMASONS lodge held a meeting to mark 75 since since its founding.

Members at Steadfast Lodge met at Sale Masonic Hall on Monday, June 24.

It was founded on the same day in 1944 after the founding members of the lodge petitioned the United Grand Lodge in London to bring a new lodge into existence.

Adrian Davies, assistant head of Cheshire Masons spoke about the founders in his address to 70 members and guests.

Following a history of the lodge given by secretary Jim Geeling, they heard about how its founding members had initiated their sons into the lodge, some of whom are still current members. A cheque was presented to David Dyson, the deputy head of Cheshire Freemasons for £750 to benefit various charities. Paul Fitzsimmons, lodgemaster, had opened the special meeting.
