TRAFFORD Council has said a big thank you to its army of volunteers!

The Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Rob Chilton, hosted a special recognition ceremony celebrating the hard work and commitment of local volunteers, as well as the support provided to them by voluntary organisations and businesses.

More than 100 people and organisations were nominated by residents, and they were all invited to receive a certificate and commemorative pin-badge from the Mayor. The ceremony took place as part of the Trafford Live family festival, with a large crowd applauding their efforts.

Volunteers provide a huge contribution to Trafford, supporting some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable at their time of need, as well as providing the social activity that makes our communities great places to live.

Recognised for his work with the Sickle Cell Care Charity, Urmston resident George Devlin said: “It was great to be nominated for this and hear the kind words of encouragement from the Mayor. People do not volunteer for praise and reward, but the difference we make to Trafford is significant, so it is nice to recognised by Trafford Council in this way.”

Cllr Rob Chilton, Mayor of Trafford, said: “Volunteers, and the groups they give their time to, make a massive difference to Trafford’s communities and our residents. This is just a small gesture to say thank you on behalf of the Council to them, and to the businesses that support their employees to volunteer. Trafford would not be the great place it is to live and work without our volunteers.”
