Tower’s tasty treats

THE ‘Merchants of Hoghton’ will be offering fresh local produce and more at a farmers' market in the Great Barn at Hoghton Tower on Sunday (10am - 2pm).

One of the original markets in Lancashire, it's a celebration of fresh ingredients grown or reared locally.

Farmers and growers are joined by bakers, confectioners and craftsmen and women to make it a great day out.

It is a mecca for locals in the know so why not join them in picking up a tasty, high-quality bargain?

And while you are there why not take the opportunity to take a tour around the historical tower or relax on the lawn or in a quiet corner of the gardens?

It costs £2 per car and £1 for pedestrians.

Be inspired by Ironman

IF you were impressed and inspired by the weekend’s IronmanUK event, why not set yourself the challenge of getting in shape?

It could mean that next year, instead of being a spectator, you could be a competitor.

Bolton boasts plenty of gyms - both council-owned and private - to start training in, and to prepare yourself for Ironman’s 2.4 mile swim in Pennington Flash, take advantage of one of several swimming pools to be found across the borough.

If you train hard enough you could end up with a medal.

Experience the joy of Jumbles

WITH fine, sunny weather predicted for the coming week, it’s a great opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise at Jumbles Country Park.

At this time of the year, it’s at its rural best and with plenty of walks and trails to suit all abilities and ages, there is no excuse not to take advantage of it.

You might be lucky enough to spot deer, foxes and some less common birds during your rambles.
