A FORMER Trafford College Student turned celebrity snapper has scooped a national award.

Lewis Roberts received the Silver Runner-Up Award for Creative Media Student of the Year 2019 at a ceremony in London last week for demonstrating a clear passion for his subject and taking the initiative to develop his skills on several work placements.

His subjects included Post Malone, Liam Gallagher and Sigrid.

As part of his studies in BTEC Level 3 Film and TV, Lewis spent a month at the British Film Institute Academy, producing a short film that won several awards, including best entry for 16 to 21 year olds at the IAC British Amateur Film Competition 2018.

While on work experience at internet media company UNILAD his original video content resulted in millions of views, and a job offer as junior video editor;

Lewis edited long and short-form content for the UNILAD Adventure page and performed the duties of camera and production assistant on location for original content for UNILAD series ‘Roam For The Gram’ and ‘24 Hours in Liverpool’.

Lewis, who gained a triple distinction at Trafford College, said: “One of the best things about my course and studying at Trafford College was being able to work alongside like-minded people who shared the same passion and career goals as myself. I also loved learning about the media industry in-depth and enjoying areas I would never have thought I would have liked or had the chance to learn about.

“The BTEC Level 3 Film and TV course helped me to identify that editing and camera operating was the area that I wanted to pursue a career in.

"Through the units and assignments I was able to the learn skills to help me achieve this. It also gave me confidence in my own ability and a professional show reel, which were both invaluable to securing a job.”

Alongside his day job, Lewis has started his own photography business where he has shot photos of stars in concert.
