AN Urmston care home threw open its doors as part of an annual awareness day.
De Brook Lodge welcomed the Mayor of Trafford, Cllr Robert Chilton, last Friday for the National Care Home Open Day.
This year's theme, which celebrates the role of art and music in care, was reflected in a schedule of events which included a live performance by Urmston Musical Theatre, live entertainment from Deborah Delight plus an art class hosted by pupils from Wellacre Academy.
The home also hosted pottery, creative drawing, decoupage and flower arranging sessions throughout the day.
Valerie Shaughnessy, De Brook Lodge’s manager, said: “We were delighted to open our home to the public and welcome Cllr Chilton. It’s important that the people living in our area feel welcome to visit De Brook Lodge and see for themselves how fulfilling and fun daily life is here."
The home offers 24-hour residential and dementia care for 52 people.
Cllr Chilton added: “Care homes are an integral part of the community and it’s important that we recognise the contribution they – and the people who live and work in them – make to society."
