POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a woman who arrived at hospital with "numerous injuries".

The woman, described by officers as being in her 30s, arrived at hospital at around 2pm after falling ill and died a short time later.

Staff called police after discovering her wounds.

The man, aged 55, was then arrested as officers launched a murder investigation.

The woman’s family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective chief inspector Liz Hopkinson of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with the woman’s family after we have sadly had to inform them that their loved one has passed away.

“We will be following every line of enquiry that is available to us to find out exactly what led to her death and will provide any updates as and when we can.”
