A HISTORIC former community snooker club could be yours after the building went up for sale.

The Church Street building which used to house Farnworth Snooker Club is thought to be more than a century old and contains a large dance hall mainly used during its days as a community centre.

Farnworth developer Paul Riley purchased the site last year and decided to renovate the old club in an effort to bring "new life" into the ageing facility.

Now, the construction work is complete and Mr Riley is set to auction off the building.

"We've refurbished it to a nice standard," he said.

"But now its time for someone else to come in and do something with it.

"It's a blank canvas for anyone to do something great with it and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to the building."

A major section of the refurbishment project saw workers restore the large wooden beams in the dance hall at the back of the site which are thought to have been a key part of its original design.

The two-storey building, located next to St Gregory's, home of the famous Phoenix Club from Peter Kay's legendary comedy Phoenix Nights, was originally said to be in poor condition but has now been brought up to scratch.

Mr Riley says the former snooker club could become anything from a restaurant or pub to a children's centre or could be used to house flats or other accommodation.

It is set to go under the hammer on Tuesday, July 16, with property agents Pugh.

The guide price has been set at £550,000.
