NEW pictures show the transformation of the Trafford Centre’s Barton Square as part of a £75million revamp.

The redevelopment, now at its half way point, will see over 110,000 sq ft of extra shopping space added to the intu centre.

A glass dome which replicates the dome at St Paul’s Cathedral is now completely glazed and visible to passers-by.

Constructed from over 1,800 pieces of glass, it weighs over 250 tonnes.

Alison Niven, regional centre Director at intu Trafford Centre said: “Things are rapidly moving forward with the development as we draw ever closer to opening.

“Main structures are in place and the final piece of glazing on the spectacular main dome has now been completed.

“Soon exciting new retail partners will be able to take space and bring new shopper experiences.”

Eye-catching marble and granite sourced from around the world, including Brazil, Italy and India, has also been used to develop the luxurious flooring and statues.

Since the build began in 2018, over 200,000 hours have been dedicated to overhauling Barton Square in order to create the newly-designed upper level.

36 palm trees, 20 marble seats, 120 urns and a total of 120 status will line the square. A fountain will act as a centrepiece.

The square will play host to a new two-storey flagship Primark store which till take a space equivalent to two football pitches.

This will go alongside the existing retail and leisure facilities already at the centre such as Next Home, Home Sense and LEGOLAND Discovery Centre. 350 new car parking spaces will be created, along with facilities for charging electric vehicles. The grand opening will take place in spring 2020.
