A STRETFORD GP surgery placed in special measures by inspectors will close down permanently later this month.

Trafford health bosses said attempts to make necessary improvements at Gorse Hill Medical Centre and Ayres Road Surgery (Limelight branch) had failed ‘despite best efforts’.

Patients will be transferred to other local practices.

A Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection report earlier this year said patients ‘were at risk of harm’ because of below standard ‘systems and processes’ at the Chester Road facility.

Officers from Trafford’s clinical commissioning group (CCG) had been drafted in to resolve the issues. But the decision has been made to close it down with Drs Ranjit Sumra and Satnam Kaur set to retire.

Dr Mark Jarvis, CCG medical director, said the welfare of patients was ‘top priority’.

He added: “Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of everyone involved and after careful consideration, a decision has been made to close.

“We are now working with NHS England and the practice to ensure that patients transfer to other local practices and continue to receive good quality care.

“We are also liaising with staff at the practice about their future and offering them support at this time.”

The surgery will close on June 26. Following an inspection in January, the sector watchdog said the practice was ‘inadequate’ for providing safe, effective, responsive, well-led and caring services.

Dr Jarvis added: “I would like to thank Dr Ranjit Sumra and Dr Satnam Kaur for their efforts over the years.”
