I read with interest about the High Street fight back in the Messenger, and I applaud all that has been and is being done to help this lovely town.

However, the Multi Storey Car Park in the Stamford Quarter is now to be used mainly by Contract Parkers from Monday to Friday.

This is not going to help Altrincham, Contract Parkers are not shopping in the town, but most likely to be going off to work probably in Manchester as well as Altrincham.

I understand that shoppers are to use the open car park, but the lifts there have not been in use for many months and to walk back to the lifts in the Multi Storey is hazardous with vehicles entering and exiting the open area.

What about people who are not able to walk far but are not eligible to use a space for the disabled and do not find it easy to use the stairs. We have helped people who have not been able to use the stairs there very well.

If it is wet it is a long way to walk with shopping and I know that if it is at all icy etc it is closed! What do the shoppers do then?

It would have been better to make the Contract parkers use most of the open area and leave the multi storey for the shoppers.

I did query the notice of this arrangement and was told that all Contract Parkers had been informed, why no prior notice to the general public who use this car park?

On Friday the 17th they had an attendant speaking to motorists as they entered, no doubt informing them of the new arrangement, there was a queue back to the main road! Obviously notice of this arrangement had NOT been publicised.

This was the day your headline was about leading the fight back.

I did contact the Chamber of Commerce and I am sorry to say there was not much response only to tell me to write to them.

Altrincham needs car parking that is convenient and easy to use if it is to survive.
