A MAN is in hospital "fighting for his life" after being stabbed early this morning.

A 17-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assault. The victim is in hospital in critical condition, being treated for stab wounds.

Police were called to the scene by ambulance shortly after 5.45am, with the ambulance crew reporting an "unacceptable level of aggression".

Police are continuing to investigate and have appealed for information.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating after a man was stabbed in Old Trafford.

Shortly after 5.45am on Thursday 16 May 2019 police were called by the ambulance service to Upper Chorlton Road in Old Trafford after they attended reports that a 22-year-old man had been stabbed.

The ambulance crew were also experiencing an unacceptable level of aggression.

The man was taken to hospital where he is currently in a critical condition receiving treatment for stab wounds.

Police officers attended and a 17-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion Section 18 Assault.

Due to prior police contact, this incident has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch.

Detective Inspector Dave Jones form GMP’s Trafford borough said: “My thoughts are with the man as he fights for his life in hospital.

“We have launched an investigation and a 17-year-old girl was arrested at the scene.

“GMP officers had been at the property in the hours prior to this incident, so for this reason we will be looking at our actions as is our policy.

“We would like to hear form anyone who has any information or concerns regarding this incident.”
