HAVE you got your sights on stardom on just fancy you hand at treading the boards? The look no further as a new performing arts school is coming to Bury.

Popular region-wide Footlights youth theatre company is set to open its newest theatre school at Bury Grammar School this Saturday.

The school is the second in the borough, joining Footlights Prestwich which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary, and offers classes in acting, singing and dancing.

First opened in 2005, Footlights Theatre Schools operate at a thirteen locations around Greater Manchester and the North West.

Over the years hundreds of youngsters have passed through their doors, and have been springboarded into appearances on stage and screen.

Some of the many success enjoyed by students include roles in Matilda The Musica, Les Miserables CBBC's KATY, and HBO's Game of Thrones; as well as adverts for Aldi, McDonalds and the Co-operative Bank.

Imogen Chadwick, who attends Footlights Prestwich, and has recently appeared on screen as Elena in the new CBBC show Almost Never, said: “Footlights is the highlight of my week. It’s really good fun and the teachers give the confidence to try anything.

"I think I have improved so much in my acting, singing and dancing. All the activities each week are great and no matter what stage you are at it is challenging yet achievable.

"Thanks to Footlights I have fallen in love with performing arts and feel like I have made friends for life.”

To launch the new Footlights Bury a fun-packed open day will be held at Bury Grammar School on April 27.

The day will including free taster sessions and performance workshops, plus a chance to get to know the school's tutors.

It will run from 10am to 1pm for seven to 18-year-olds, and 10.30am to 11.30am for three to six-year-olds.
