EMERGENCY services are still on scene at the fire that ripped through the former Marbella Mambo nightclub in Birkenhead.

Firefighters called at around 9.40pm on Wednesday, April 24 following reports of a blaze at a disused club on Conway Street.

On arrival firefighters discovered that a large part of the ex-Marbella Mambo nightclub roof was well alight.

Smoke could be seen billowing from the building in Liverpool.

At 9.20am on Thursday, April 25, emergency crews remain on scene with firefighters dampening the area.

There have been no injuries reported.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that firefighting continued through the night but has now stopped.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is set to be carried out.

Road closures are in place on Conway Street between Adelphi Street and Argyle Street while firefighters work to make the area safe.

Birkenhead bus station will be open to the public.

Neighbouring nightclub Red Buddha confirmed that they would be open as usual this weekend alongside the Beach and Cool Room.
