A MAN who seriously assaulted a woman in front of a child has been jailed for 16 weeks by Manchester magistrates.

Mark Langtree, aged 37, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on April 14.

Langtree was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and a restraining order was made banning him from contacting the woman or going to Cromwell Road, Prestwich.

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to do 200 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a man and being in possession of an illegal taser on October 27 last year.

John Fruscella, aged 49, of Hazel Avenue, Bury, was also ordered to pay £170 in costs and charges.

A MAN who damaged glass doors and a pot plant belonging to Bury Council has been ordered, by magistrates, to pay the authority £205 in compensation.

Robert Hughes, aged 64, of Top o'th' Fields, Whitefield, pleaded guilty to committing the offences on December 20.

Hughes was also fined £40 and ordered to pay £80 in costs and charges after admitting being drunk and disorderly in Whitefield on December 27.

A SHOPLIFTER who stole goods, worth £50, from B&M Bargains in Bury on April 13, has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 18 months by Manchester magistrates.

Mary Buckley, aged 31, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stealing the items and taking confectionary, worth £71, from Morrisons in Whitefield on March 18.

MAGISTRATES have have handed a man an eight week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months after he admitted stealing washing powder and liquid, worth £38, from McColls in Bury on January 20.

The court heard that Kevin Graham, aged 36, of Bank Street, Radcliffe, has a appalling record for shoplifting but now has his own home and is willing to work with the probation service.

Graham was also ordered to pay the shop compensation.

A TEENAGER who took a Mercedes car without permission and drove it without a licence or insurance has beens sentenced to a conditional discharge for two years by Manchester magistrates.

William Greenhalgh, aged 19, of Gate Lane, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to committing the offences on December 16 in Oak Lane, Whitefield.

Six penalty points were added to his driving record and he was ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

A DRINK driver has been banned from the roads for 12 months by Manchester magistrates.

Adrian Malczewski, aged 27, of Water Street, Radcliffe, admitted being over the limit when he drove a Honda Accord on Cemetery Road, Bury, on March 9.

He was also fined £280 and ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

A MAN caught begging in the underpass between Bury Market and Angouleme Way has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for six months.

Peter Rogers, aged 38, of Hewart Drive, Bury, pleaded guilty and was also ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.
