THE former Partington Social Club which was destroyed after a fire ripped through the building last year, could be replaced with a block of flats.

Plans to bulldoze the current building to make way for 24 ‘affordable’ apartments have been submitted by TSA Property Management.

The club, located along Warburton Lane,  has remained empty since it was engulfed by flames following an arson attack in January, 2018.

Blueprints for the new development include delivering ‘modern’ two-bed apartments over three floors.

The report says: “Currently, the site is vacant apart from a few vehicles that use the car park.”

“The building is not contributing to the local area in terms of housing or employment.

“However, we are offering to deliver 24 affordable apartments, all with private parking, that will meet the demand for low-cost housing in the area.”

A neighbour has written to Trafford council saying he ‘wholeheartedly’ supports the plans.

“The development will offer affordable homes to those that need them – and, at the same time, help reduce anti-social behaviour in the area,” the letter stated.

“The plans are well designed and will ensure residents who live behind the club still get a good amount of natural light.”

A public consultation could follow while more details of the scheme are released at the reserved matters stage.

“The design has been prepared to produce a sensitive, contemporary residential development,” added the report.

“The proposal will sit well in its surroundings and make a positive impact and enhance the local area.

“The development will not only be visually pleasing but also fulfil the needs for its new residents.”
