ON Remembrance Sunday, 2017, a dead tree was spotted in front of the War Memorial at Altrincham Garden of Remembrance.
Altrincham Court Leet thought it would be a good idea to have the tree carved in the shape of a First World War soldier.
After Trafford Council had given permission for the project to go ahead, the tree was checked by the sculptor who declared it suitable.
Now it’s all hands on deck to raise the £5,500 required to carry out the work.
Gallagher Roofing, of Dunham Massey has agreed, without charge, to provide the scaffolding and work will begin on March 4.
Alderman Alan Laver, the Clerk to the Court, said: “The Chapel Street Memorial, unveiled on April 5 now stands at the Altrincham Garden of Remembrance so this soldier will forever connect World War I soldiers and Chapel Street.”
