A TALK on the works of Elizabeth Gaskell will take place in Padgate next month.

Padgate Library will host the event with Liz Williams, former chairman of the Elizabeth Gaskell Society, between 7pm and 9pm on Monday, February 11.

Elizabeth Gaskell authored novels including Cranford, North and South and Wives and Daughters.

A key mid-19th century literary figure, Elizabeth grew up in Knutsford – while her son William, who died in infancy in 1845, is buried at the Cairo Street Unitarian Chapel in Warrington town centre.

The event is being organised by the Friends of Padgate Library.

A spokesman said: "For all you lovers of Cranford, Wives and Daughters and North and South – this is a treat.

"Liz Williams is an expert in her life and work and we expect the talk to be very popular, so get your tickets soon."

Tickets are priced at £2, with refreshments available.
