A NEW head chef from Germany has taken over the reins at Rhyl's 1891 restaurant.

Andreas Leisinger, 31, has taken over from Aaron Broster who had been at the venue - at the Pavilion Theatre - since it opened its doors in December 2017.

Andreas started his culinary education at the renowned restaurant Wasserschloss Inzlingen in Germany before moving to Scotland and then Llandudno where he worked at the St George’s Hotel in Llandudno and the Quay Hotel and Spa, Deganwy, before becoming head chef at Chantrey’s restaurant at the Imperial Hotel, Llandudno.

The chef, who is looking forward to putting his own mark on 1891, has introduced a new range of seasonally inspired dishes.

He said: "I'm excited to be here. The restaurant itself just looks beautiful and so are the views.

"My focus will be on simple food with a modern feel. I try not to over complicate, using five or six ingredients and letting them speak from themselves, creating flavours and making the food exciting and sometimes a bit intriguing.

"My biggest passion is about flavour and produce, to use the produce to the best of its ability and showcase flavours on the menu in the right way, that is very important.

"I want to make dishes that are good enough to make people want to come back here to 1891 and enjoy it again and again and again. As head chef it is very important to make your customers happy.”

Andreas added: “I think the restaurant is in the right spot to do something big and be part of the big changes happening in Rhyl, all the investment. I think it is really exciting to be part of it.”

Andreas will be hosting food-themed evenings which will include special offers and family discounts.

The first of these nights include a special offer of ‘2-for-1’ on main meals every Thursday, and then every Friday, Saturday and Sunday ‘Kids eat free’ with a full paying adult.
