THE first community litter pick for 2019 was arranged on Sunday by environmental group Our Altrincham.

Thirteen volunteers took part in the two-hour litter pick which resulted in 31 bags of litter and rubbish being removed from the streets of Altrincham.

The volunteers clocked up around 92,000 steps, walked 43 miles and gave more than 26 volunteer hours on Sunday.

Sarah Walmsley said: “It was great to see new and existing volunteers on our first litter pick of the New Year as the town needed a good clean up after the festive season.

"It’s really encouraging to see children and families joining in, as our volunteers love to make a positive difference to Altrincham and many have been bitten by the “litter picking” bug so hopefully we will see them again.”

To date 2,549 bags of litter have been collected by the Our Altrincham volunteers.

The next litter pick in Sunday, March 3, and you can register and get more details by emailing Our Altrincham at Sarahw@ouraltrincham.org
