BOLTON Town Hall was illuminated in a dazzling display of light this evening.

A kaleidoscope of colour was projected on to the landmark as part of Bolton Light Festival, a set of events taking place across the town over the last month.

The spectacle was designed to mark the 21st anniversary of Bolton at Home’s Percent for Art initiative, which has championed arts and creativity in the borough.

And those who turned out to Victoria Square to watch one of the numerous showings throughout the evening were not left disappointed.

To a backdrop of music, the production brought images, and footage from past projects back to life to showcase the work the initiative has carried out with people and communities across the borough.

A video of the display is available on The Bolton News’ Facebook page, and you can also see it for yourself from 5pm on Saturday evening.

Vanessa McDermott, one of the arts officers within Bolton at Home, said: “We really wanted to be part of the light festival.

“The people you hear and see in the production are all people who live within communities who have taken part in Bolton at Home arts projects in the past.

“We have worked with an artist collection called Illuminous, who are specialists in light projections, to create this. We gave them the footage and picked out parts that were particular highlights, or moments that were quite pertinent.”

The display is one of a number of events that have been taking place across the town since the light festival began on October 21.

This week, Bolton Library and Museum staged Light Night Code Breakers, where families were invited into the building to try and solve a series of puzzles using light, imagination and codebreaking skills to find the answers. The event is also being held on Saturday from 6pm.

The festival will culminate with the town’s Christmas Light Switch On from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, where there will be musical entertainment, a magical light parade and a spectacular firework finale.
