YEAR 8 schoolgirls are being invited to become an ‘Engineer for a Day’ at a special event at the University of Bolton on Friday.
The initiative is aimed at helping to spark an interest in engineering in teenage girls and has been organised in conjunction with MBDA.
Around a dozen schools are expected to take part and there will be friendly competition between schools and students as youngsters learn about the vital role engineering plays and what a fascinating and rewarding career it can be. The girls-only event will give a chance to see how maths and science are used in the real world and explain the diverse job opportunities available after studying science.
It is one of a number of initiatives by the University as part of the 2018 Year of Engineering, which aims to encourage young people to consider a career in engineering to help address a skills gap across the UK. The ‘Engineer for a Day’ event will take place at the University’s National Centre for Motorsport Engineering in Deane Road from 9am until 4pm. Email heather@educationtraining
