RECENTLY we featured a teenage beauty queen who was turning heads back in 1979 at competitions across the country.

At the time, we appealed for anyone who knew of the whereabouts today, of the then Judith Atkinson, who by 1981 was a firm favourite on the beauty queen circuit and won a number of titles including the English Carnival Queen, Miss Weston Super-Mare and the Holiday Princess of Great Britain.

Well, we were contacted by Judith herself, now Mrs Heaton, who still lives in Horwich, who reminded us that she also won Miss Hawaiian Tropic, which resulted in her competing against some of the world’s most beautiful women on the island of Hawaii.

She explained: “I did go on to win a few more competitions and ended up winning Miss Hawaiian Tropic and competing in the finals in Hawaii along with contestants from around the world.

“I then got married in 1987 to my husband Wayne and went on to have three children, two sons aged 27 and 25 and a daughter 23.

Judith added: “My daughter is a beautician and my two sons work together in their own clothing company.

“They have become very successful and are a British designer brand and have cat walked their collections in Paris Milan and New York.

“They also work in Horwich and have a unit and office in Middlebrook.

“In hindsight, I guess I went from Horwich to Hawaii and they went from Horwich to Hollywood!”
