A FATHER accused of child sex abuse offences has been awarded £1,000 after Trafford Council forced him out of his home.

The man was ordered to leave his home, which he shared with his wife and children, after council bosses said he should not be ‘left alone with children’.

But the claims against the man were later withdrawn and the investigation dropped.

The man has now been handed £1,000 in compensation.

An investigation was launched after the dad – known only as ‘Mr C’ in a report – was accused of historic crimes in April 2016.

He denied the allegations and his accuser later withdrew the claims. The Crown Prosecution Service then decided to take no further action.

Mr C later complained to the council about its handling of the situation.
According to an independent review, the council’s investigation was found not to be ‘proportionate, timely or fair’.

The council was advised to apologise to Mr C for its ‘mishandling’ of the situation.

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: “These were serious allegations which had to be properly investigated and we worked in partnership with the police on this.

“However, we accept that we could have provided more support for the family during this period and that we didn’t follow our own procedures properly.

“For this we have apologised to the complainant and accept the findings of the Ombudsman.”

The indepedent review recommended that the authority make ‘service improvements” and pay the man £500.

But this offer was rejected by Mr C and he escalated his concerns to the local ombudsman.

It was then decided that the Council should pay Mr C a settlement sum of £1,000 in recognition of his ‘undue distress’.
