A VERY special cat from Trafford is one of the first pets to be honoured with its own commemorative plaque.

Similar to the English Heritage blue plaque scheme, the launch of ‘Pet Plaques’ turns the attention on to the nation's most beloved pets.

Paw-don the puns, but some Messenger readers were left purr-plexed by the whole idea.

This is what our some of our readers had to say.

I HAVE been seeing all over social media about the unveiling of a plaque for cat!

Yes, a cat!

Jayne Dillon, a Trafford councillor, has not only used her story of a cat to write a successful book and try to cash in on that, but now abused her power as a councillor to get a plaque commemorating where the cat lives!

How absolutely ridiculous and a total waste of money. What is happening in Trafford?

Surely there are more important and more deserving things, people and groups to celebrate than a cat that is the star of an unsuccessful book!

I’m surprised at both Kate Green MP and the Mayor of Trafford getting drawn into this ridiculous charade and ‘officially’ unveiling the plaque.

How absurdly ridiculous. I honestly thought it was a joke and had to check it wasn’t the April 1.

This makes a total mockery of our councillors, some of which are hardworking, conscientious and Actually want to do good for our area.

Instead, Jayne Dillon is trying to grab attention not through her own deeds but of those of a pet!

I’m totally gobsmacked and bemused, but also angry at the waste of much needed money.

Ridiculous.

A very bemused Stretford resident.

I HAVE seen various councils over the years waste tax payers money on all kinds of ridiculous things, but I have never in my life seen or heard of a cat getting a plaque on the house it lives in.

How is this a place of local interest!? How absolutely ridiculous!

While our local hospital, police and schools take cuts to finances, here Mayor Tom Ross and Kate Green MP are cutting into their busy schedules to unveil this ridiculous plaque.

No one has ever heard of Jessi-cat and no one cares.

We do care about our taxes being wasted by fame and glory seeking councillors who are wasting our hard earned money on such nonsense.

What a complete farce and ridiculous thing to happen when money is scarce in Trafford.
