AS I mentioned in one of my earlier columns, you never know who you might bump into at the BBC.

On my last visit there, as a guest on the Becky Want Show, I met Elaine from Elaine’s Creative Cakes which is a small, family-run business based at Davyhulme Circle in Urmston, and has been established for just under seven years.

Elaine and her team produce bespoke wedding cakes and a variety of celebration cakes from simple, classic designs to fun and elaborate cakes with plenty of modelling involved.

Elaine said: “As long as it fits out of the door, we will do it!”

I learned how Elaine has developed her business year after year and has diversified her offering and branched into teaching sugarcraft courses.

She has been a confectioner for more than 30 years but says she loves to learn new skills that keep her on her toes.

Now, I am not a big cake eater, I'm much more of a savoury man, but I am a fan of art in all its various forms and Elaine is very much an artist.

She showed me a photograph of a cake she had made of an under the sea scene and it really was an amazing piece of artwork.

Elaine had just come back from London where she had won the very prestigious Celebration Cake Business of the Year Award, beating all entries from right across the UK.

I spoke to Elaine's husband, Kevin, who said: “Elaine has won the title three times now and has been a runner up three times also.

"It is nearly 20 years since she won the first time. I think she has shown she has been at the top of her game for a long time and myself and our son Jacob (12) are very proud of her achievements.”

I am all about promoting our area and showing what fantastic people we have in our borough, so I wanted to share Elaine's good news with you and I hope you will all join me in congratulating her on winning her well deserved award.

See you next week!
