Over the years, my Val and I have put on various charity nights and we have always been proud to have the current Mayor of Trafford support us and attend our events.

I have also performed for our Mayors at their own charity events.

I keep in touch with a couple of former Mayors who I am proud to call friends.

Our current Mayor is Cllr Tom Ross who has started his term as Mayor of Trafford with great enthusiasm.

He also happens to be the youngest Mayor Trafford has ever had!

I asked Mayor Ross what it means to him to be the Mayor of Trafford. Here’s what he had to say.

“It really is an honour to take on the role and I’ve found it to be a fantastic experience so far.

“I have enjoyed meeting many Trafford residents and community groups over the past few months who do some amazing work! I feel one of my main roles as Mayor is to highlight and celebrate what is going on in Trafford, and that hasn’t been hard to do so far! I also have to chair meetings of Trafford Council and undertake other civic duties such as Citizenship Ceremonies held in Sale Town Hall.”

I asked Mayor Ross to describe a normal working day?

“Sometimes I can have quite a few engagements in one day — for instance on a recent Saturday I started with a visit to Timperley Country Fair, then went to St Paul’s Church in Sale to join the heritage open day.

“After that I had the pleasure of opening Sale Area Model Engineering Society’s new engine shed in Walton Park (where I also got to go on a model train!). My day then finished at an Eid Celebration event in Old Trafford. It was a great day and also shows what a diverse place Trafford is.”

When the Mayor is not on duty, he says he mainly likes to sleep!

“But when I’m not sleeping I try to catch up with family and friends. I also try to keep up some kind of fitness regime.”

To finish, I asked Mayor Ross what are his plans for his term as Mayor?

“I hope during my year as Mayor to do as much as I can to promote Trafford and all the fantastic things that happen here.”
