TRAINS between England and Scotland have stopped running due to problems caused by Storm Ali.

Damage to overhead electric wires on the East Coast mainline and the West Coast mainline means that services between Preston and Scotland are currently unable to run.

National Rail has also said that buses are unavailable, and have urged people with journeys north of Preston to postpone them as soon as possible.

High winds have resulted in fallen trees and speed restrictions throughout the day, affecting Caledonian Sleeper, TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains services

Delays of up to two hours are being experienced by passengers on trains across the West Coast mainline. Other journeys are due to be cancelled or revised.
