THE M66 has been closed after a traffic accident this morning.
A full closure is in place at junction 2 of the M66 and traffic officers are directing all traffic towards the exit at junction 2 Northbound whilst the incident is brought under control.
Highways teams between junctions 2 and 1 northbound are cleaning up a fuel spillage following a high-speed collision.
Motorway Police and emergency services are on the scene.
Motorists are being directed to follow the 'Solid Black Diamond' diversion symbols to exit the M66 at junction 2 and taking the second exit on to the A58 (westbound).
Road users should then continue on the A58 northbound on Derby Way before turning left on to the A56 westbound at Wood Lane.
Motorists should proceed to the A59/A676 roundabout and re-join the A56 northbound.
Road users are being advised to allow extra time for their journey.
