A MAN from Sale has been shot in the head by a suspected hitman in Amsterdam.

The 55-year-old victim, originally from Sale, was shot in the head outside a café near the Dutch city's red light district on Saturday, May 19.

Dutch police believe the attempted murder was the result of a gangland feud.

National Crime Agency investigators are appealing for help to track down the suspected hitman, who is believed to be British.

A witness described the hitman as speaking English with a north-west accent, possibly Merseyside or Manchester.

Messenger Newspapers:

The suspected gunman had earlier been seen walking towards the café in Amsterdam’s Stromarkt, where he pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim, before taking a bicycle taxi in the direction of the Dam area of the city.

Two months after the attempted murder, the victim remains in hospital in stable condition.

He is a British citizen with connections to Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, but he now lives in the Netherlands.

Despite a large scale search, the Dutch authorities have failed to track the hitman down and they are now working closely with Britain's NCA.

Messenger Newspapers:

Jayne Lloyd, North West branch commander, said: “The attack took place in a public area. This man is clearly very dangerous, which is why we need to identify him quickly and make sure he cannot harm anyone else.

“Witnesses say he spoke English with either a Merseyside or Manchester accent, which is what leads our Dutch colleagues to suspect that somebody here in the north west knows his identity."

The gunman was captured on CCTV footage, which has been released to help identify him. You can view the footage above.

Anyone with information about this man or his whereabouts should contact the NCA on 0370 496 7622 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The NCA are advising people not approach the man as he is dangerous and could be armed.
