A MAN has been charged with causing the death of a Sale woman following a collision in Chester Road.

Laurence Crossan, 28, of no fixed abode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, failure to report a collision and dangerous driving.

At around 9.25pm on Thursday, June 28, a woman was crossing Chester Road at a pedestrian crossing near to the junction of Manson Avenue when she was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Mondeo.

The pedestrian, who has since been formally identified as 24-year-old Emma Galton from Sale, died at the scene, despite the best efforts of emergency services to save her.

Miss Galton's grieving parents paid tribute to their daughter on Monday.

"We are completely devastated to hear of our eldest daughter Emma’s untimely death. We know she is at peace now in heaven with the Lord Jesus", said her parents.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the investigation and to everyone that helped our son to get back from his holiday so that he could be with us at this heart-breaking time.”

Crossan has been remanded to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court tomorrow, Thursday, July 5.
