THE boss of a Trafford charity hopes a cost-cutting move will help it work with other good causes at its new home.

The Centre for Independent Living (TCIL) charity, which supports people with disabilities and mental health issues, has moved from its headquarters at Marshall House, Sale, to Oakland House, Talbot Road.

Interim boss Estelle Neuman said the move meant the charity is now sharing space at its new north Trafford home with other charities, from which it might benefit in the long term.

She said: “The move has been beneficial to the organisation because it reduces costs substantially. But it also means we will lose some of the benefits Marshall House offered, such as really great, flexible training space.

“In moving, we will also change how we work. It’s easy to think only staff will be affected by these changes, but in reality, the changes will also affect how we work with our service users and it is my job to minimise the impact.”

While she is happy to take up the challenges of the new location, which could help the manner with which a variety of charities interact with each other, she has concerns about the charity’s well attended coffee mornings at the Sale site, which could be impacted.

She said: “It gives charities and community organisations a chance to benefit from each other’s expertise and reduce overhead costs which presents both opportunities and challenges, including finding new venues for some of its activities.

“This includes TCIL’s popular weekly coffee mornings, which have always taken place at the Sale office.”
