PLANS have been submitted for a £3.5 million redevelopment of Urmston Market.

Detailed plans have been submitted for Market 41 by the McGoff Group, which aims to create the same food and drink-led resurgence that nearby Altrincham has experienced.

The McGoff group took over the site in Railway Road last year and is anticipating a decision on the latest plans by Trafford Council by June, with work to start creating the new facilities by August.

If all goes according to plan the new facilities would be open by late autumn.

The proposed development is set to feature a diverse blend of 10-12 food and drink operators positioned around an informal central seating area of about 160-180 covers and staffed by Urmston Beverage & Leisure Company Limited — a new division of the group.

McGoff Group boss Chris McGoff said it would be investing approximately £3.5 million in the comprehensive redevelopment of the existing market site, with phase one housing already underway.

The newly submitted plan is designed to facilitate a development appropriate and sympathetic to the locality, reflecting both the architecture and form of the existing buildings along Railway Road and Greenfield Avenue.

Mr McGoff said: “Anticipation is already mounting in Urmston for the new food market hall, with lots of interest from residents in terms of timings and enquiries from potential operators, which is great to see so early on.

“We want M41 to reflect Urmston’s vibrancy and increasing desirability as a great place to live, work and play, and have worked closely with the local community to establish their views and understand their feedback regarding the concept, building design and product offering.”

He added: “The proposed plans for M41 are exceptional with every detail carefully considered, including indoor and outdoor children’s play areas, private dining, a mezzanine level with additional seating, space for pop-up stalls and staging events, as well as a dedicated co-work hub with free wifi to name just a few.

“We really have invested significantly in M41 as it will be the first and pioneering new build food market hall in the North West, with Urmston the perfect location for the development.”
