CONSERVATIVE Party chairman Brandon Lewis praised the way Trafford Council is run and the huge investment it has brought to the area.

Visiting the £20 million Health and Wellbeing Centre being developed by Citybranch at the former Altrincham Hospital this afternoon, Mr Lewis encouraged residents to vote Conservative at May's local elections.

He said: "The success in Altrincham is a fantastic example of a well-run council can do.

"It gives really good value for money and is £350 cheaper per Band D property than Stockport and it is also about delivering great frontline services.

"I was here a couple of years ago and what a difference with all the development."

One of the big issues of May's elections will be development of the green belt.

Mr Lewis said the Government must balance the need for homes in the future with protecting the countryside.

And he said voting Conservative was the only way to continue financial stability.

He said: "We have to be sensible about spending money and we have to live within our means.

"We must not forget the financial mess Labour left and we are still trying to sort out, but we are getting there."

He also said the party is trying to negotiate the best possible Brexit deal for Britain and restore confidence in the economy.

He said: "We are delivering what people voted for and we want to give them a really good outcome."
