A SOCIAL club was set ablaze during an arson attack in Partington.

Shortly after 1.50am on Tuesday 9 January 2018, police were called to reports of a fire at Partington Social Club on Warburton Lane.

It has been reported that a man broke entry to the social club and poured an unknown liquid on the outside smoking area before setting it alight and fleeing the scene.

Emergency services attended and local residents were told to remain indoors with their windows locked as the fire was brought under control.

A significant amount of damage was caused to the premises as the fire spread inside the building but there have been no reported injuries.

A joint investigation has been launched with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and enquires are ongoing.

Officers have released a CCTV image and are appealing for anyone with any information.

Detective Constable Clare Robinson, of GMP’s Trafford borough, said: “This was a completely reckless attack on a popular social club that could have easily resulted in devastating consequences.

“You can see the extent of the damage from the images we have released and I would implore anyone with any information to get in touch so that we can find the person responsible for this mindless crime.”
