FOLLOWING Trafford’s recent success in achieving a recycling rate of 61.3 per cent, the One Trafford Partnership have introduced new 'trio litter bins'.

There will be 300 of the new bins which allow people to recycle on the go installed in town centres, with a few in selected parks upon discussion with the Friends of Parks groups - discussions will run until March.

The locations have been carefully considered to ensure high footfall zones are covered including in areas near shops, schools and parks while also being easy and safe for collection crews to empty.

The bins aim to encourage everyone to recycle outside of their homes - the first has been installed outside Stretford Mall.

Cllr John Reilly, Trafford Council’s Executive Councillor for Highways, Parks and Environmental Services, said: “We have been working to perfect the design of the bin, so we are quite excited to have them installed over the coming weeks. As the rollout of the new trio bins continues, we will be talking to more community groups, Friends of Parks and local ward councillors in helping us choose the right locations for the bins. If you are a Friends of Park group and your park is part of the proposals, we will be contacting you shortly to ensure you have a say.”

"Keeping Trafford tidy, clean and green is one of our top priorities, so we want to make it as easy as possible for our residents and visitors to dispose of their litter in the most environmentally friendly way.”

Trio litter bins have two recycling compartments; one for cans and plastic bottles and the other for mixed paper and card. A third compartment is for general rubbish which cannot be recycled, including dog waste. There will also be an ashtray on top where cigarette butts can be safely extinguished and disposed of.
