STUDENTS at a performing arts academy in Sale were selected out of 16 schools around the North West to be part of this year's Manchester Opera House Pantomime, Dick Whittington.

After going through in-house auditions, 16 students aged seven to 12 from Stalder Academy auditioned for the role of the chorus back in September and a few weeks later were offered the role.

Marina Stalder, principal at Stalder Academy said: “When we got the email telling us our students has been selected everyone was naturally very excited.

"Pantomime is a first for the Academy and to make our debut in the biggest show in town was a thrilling thought."

Qdos Productions auditioned sixteen dance schools from around the North West to be part of the production starring John Barrowman and the Krankies. The pantomime lasted five weeks and recently finished on January 7.

Carolyn Moore, teacher at the academy said: “The in-house auditions to select two teams of eight girls and boys proved tricky especially considering the height and age restrictions that needed to be taken into consideration for the role.

"The dancers have really proven themselves to be professional and committed performers over the five weeks they performed."

Elspeth Rodgers, parent and show chaperone said: “The kids learned so much from a very welcoming cast and crew and being on stage at the Manchester Opera House every night of the week is an experience none of them will ever forget."

Stalder Academy of Dance, which has been established in Sale since January 2006, have recently

moved into their own premises in the heart of the town centre.

They offer classes from age two to adult, beginner to professional level, and have an open door policy to welcome anyone who would like to learn to dance, sing or act or simply keep fit.
