A BOWDON primary school is set to be the latest school in Trafford to become an academy.

The move will see Bollin Primary School become part of the Inspiring Learners Trust, which will include Tyntesfield Primary School, under the executive headship of Kylie Spark, who will be overseeing education across both sites.

Chairman of the interim executive board at the Bollin, Brian Rigby, said: “This is exciting news which I am confident will be welcomed by staff, parents and children.

“Mrs Spark has without question gained everyone’s support.

"Under her leadership, standards of teaching and learning have certainly risen and importantly the whole school community is delighted at the progress that has been made.”

Jamie Whyte, chairman of The Inspiring Learners Trust, stated: “I’m confident that the partnership between Tyntesfield and Bollin schools will bring new opportunities that will raise standards and allow the staff at both academies to share best practice to benefit every child.”

Mrs Spark said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to develop effective collaboration to benefit all pupils. I am excited about the future for both schools.”

The move follows a turbulent year for the school which was subject to an emergency closure at the end of February 2017, after a combination of parental complaints and strike action by school staff led to the departure of the headteacher appointed in May, 2016.

A gathering of parents and staff at the school in the hours following the headteacher’s departure also saw a dozen staff suspended.

This was followed by a damning Ofsted report and the school was placed in "special measures".
