The Barton Road Swing Bridge was closed for 12 hours yesterday after concerns for a man.

Police were called to the bridge over the Manchester Ship Canal at 3:30am on New Year's Day, January 1, due to concern for the welfare of a man on the bridge.

Fire engines from Stretford, Sale and Eccles, along with a Technical Response Unit and an Enhanced Rescue Unit attended to assist police and were on the scene for around 11.5 hours.

Crews also called upon the Water Incident Unit from Eccles and hydraulic platforms from Stretford and Manchester Central.

Ambulance teams were also on the scene.

The man came down from the bridge after around 12 hours.
