INCREASED burglaries from homes and driveways demands enhanced neighbourhood security, a police crime report has revealed.

There were six times as many burglaries in Stretford in March 2017, compared to the same period last year, and incidents have increased four-fold in Urmston from February 2016 to February 2017.

In Altrincham West, there were 17 burglaries in February this year, compared to just four in February 2016, and almost three times as many in March 2017 as there was in March 2016.

Manchester’s most burgled postcode was Chorlton, which has seen a 190 per cent increase in burglaries and a 240 per cent increase in vehicle crime over the past year, according to Police.UK’s February crime figures.

Jamie Siminoff, CEO of Ring.com, said: “These latest figures show a shift in a long-term trend of a gradual decrease in crime on UK streets since the mid-1990s and suggests that criminals are outfoxing some traditional security measures.

"Although the decrease in UK crime is still evident, criminals appear to be less deterred from doorstep crime. The demand for more sophisticated home security to support police efforts is clear.”

“To protect our homes and most prized possessions communities need to stay one step ahead of burglars and thieves, and modern security products which embrace digital technology can provide a belt and braces approach to security.

"Police initiatives which enable safer neighbourhoods, such as Secured by Design, are important in preventing crime through innovation, and helping to protect families and loved ones.”

Burglaries across the whole of the UK are up four per cent and vehicle theft is up 16 per cent, according to the recent crime report from the Office of National Statistics.
