THE kind stranger who came to the rescue of an 89-year-old woman who fell and hit her head on an Urmston street has been found – and the humble dad is just glad she is ok.

Elsie Gill, from Flixton, tripped and fell near Eden Square whilst out shopping with her friend, who was also in her 80s, on Saturday April 29.

A man in his 30s stayed by Elsie’s side throughout her ordeal, even coming with her to the hospital.

Elsie said: “I fell flat on my face and got a cut over my eye but I will get over that. I really wanted to thank the young man who was so kind to me. I was lay on the ground for quite a long time and the ambulance didn’t come so he drove me to the hospital with his wife and child.

“He even took me in the wheelchair up to the counter. In such a rotten world, it is nice to see people being so kind and I wanted to let him know that I appreciated his help.”

Elsie, who is now back at home recovering, wished to thank the Good Samaritan and contacted the Messenger in the hopes of reaching him.

And the article did the trick. The man in question, Matt Wall from Urmston, has come forward.

“I'm glad Elsie is ok and it's lovely that she has contacted the Messenger to thank me,” said Matt.

“The main thing is Elsie’s wellbeing and I'm so happy she was home the same day and all sorted with no major injuries.”

Matt’s proud mum Elizabeth Wall also got in touch after seeing the appeal.

She said: “Matthew has done first aid training and he would have checked nothing was broken before he moved this poor lady that fell.

“He didn't want her to catch cold on the pavement. I know I am his mum but he really is a lovely lad and they are a lovely family. I know my daughter-in-law and grandson were really concerned for the lady, let's hope she gets better real soon.”
