“DON’T” fall for it!”: Police are once again urging residents to not get reeled in by a sick scam in Sale.

Officers are aware of a man in his 50s asking members of the public for money so that he can buy petrol and visit his ill father in hospital.

Police said a man was operating a very similar scam in the town last year, asking for money and using his sick father as an excuse.

A warning was issued earlier this week but officers have received further reports that the man has been spotted asking people for money outside Sainsbury’s in Curzon Road, Sale.

A spokesperson for GMP Trafford South said: “Please be aware that the male is not genuine and this is a scam. He is using a story that his father is poorly to reel people in. Don't fall for it!

“Please avoid giving cash to this man. If he does approach you, please report this to police on the 101 number.”

The man is described as white, around 50 years, wearing jeans and T-shirt with grey hair.

Anyone who is approached by the man should call police on 101.
