GREATER Manchester Fire and Rescue have had their work cut out with Storm Doris.

Since around 8am this morning around 150 calls were received and they attended around 60 incidents.  Most related to fallen trees blocking roads.

At 12.47pm, the cladding on City Plaza in Piccadilly Place came lose. Firefighters used rope equipment to assess the situation and cordoned off the area.

At 12.33pm, a large piece of cladding was hanging off the 5th floor of the Manchester Incubator Building.

Crews attended the incident and ensured the area was structurally sound.

And at 1.34pm, a masonry tile fell from the 6th floor of an office building in Spring Gardens in Manchester.

The storm seems to be dying down after what has been a long day for the fire service.

Warren Pickstone, Head of Protection, said: “We’ve received a lot of calls today and credit has to go to all our staff for doing a fantastic job. “Hopefully we have now seen the worst of the storm but the public should remain wary of areas that may have been damaged by the high winds, be it lose roof tiles or fallen trees that could cause injury.”
